It's Not Just Spring Cleaning, Try Autumn too.

Nomatter what part of the world you live in, spring seems to be the time for doing the big clean. What about autumn' I always get the big cleaning bug in autumn as well as Spring, don't ask me why though. I'm in the middle of it right now.

No matter what the season, when you get to your sewing room or sewing corner here are some tips to keep in mind.

1) Don't tackle the 'big' job, start small, say, the first drawer of your sewing cabinet. If you're anything like me, that is the draw where you put everything you don't know what do to with at the time or really don't have a regular home for it. Work your way through all the drawers

2) Next go through all your threads and sewing notions that have found a way into other sections of your sewing cabinet and put them into their own sections. You may need to find some containers or small storage units, I like to check out the handyman sections at the hardware stores for those great little tool storage drawers for nuts, bolts, nails etc, they come in so handy for sewing notions. Always have different sizes in those zip lock plastic storage bags, they are so handy for bits and pieces, you can see what is in them so easily.

3) If you haven't gotten around to making up fabrics or projects, make a list of what you want to do, match fabrics to projects and store where you can find them easily, keep your list in a folder. There are times when you will get the urge to make up something different and your list will help you decide.

4) Left over fabrics are color co-ordinated when put away, store them in clear containers, it's amazing what you can do with different patterns and plains in the same color tonings and seeing them together will get the creative juices going.

5) Don't rush your spring or autumn cleaning, take it slowly and make sure you keep what you want and there will always be someone who will love what you don't want. Remember the saying about someone's trash being someone's treasure, we all see things with different eyes.

Enjoy your sewing Spring/Autumn cleaning.
