10 Tips to Getting Yourself Organised To Sew
Getting Yourself Organised To Sew 1. Plan 2. Choose your pattern first 3. Take a good look at your pattern, study it carefully, make a list of what you need, length of fabric, with or without nap, notion etc. 4. Get yourself a little notebook and keep it just for your sewing shopping, anything you need add it to your notebook. 5. Carry your notebook with you each time you go out, you never know what you will come across and it’s best to be prepared. 6. Make sure your machine, table and chair are at comfortable heights for you to work at. 7. Have everything where you need it, your cutting out area, your ironing board and iron within easy reach of your where you will be sewing and if possible where you don’t have to pack everything away at the end of the day. I know that’s not always easy but maybe by re-arranging some furniture, you never know what you can achieve. 8. By doing the above, you won’t be rushed through a project, you will know you can pick up where you left off so easily the next day. This makes a big difference. When I was single, the only spot I could have my sewing machine set up was at the end of my bed, I used a cushion on the end of my bed for the seat. I had a folding cutting board that I set up on my bed and there was room for the ironing board. At night I would fold up the cutting board and ironing board and cover my machine. When I came home from work the next night, it was easy to start sewing again. 9. Last but by no means least…… 10. HAVE FUN!!!! Enjoy what you are doing and if at anytime you are not enjoying your sewing, take a break, go for a walk, have a coffee, chat to a friend and come back to it later. Or start another project, maybe a smaller one that you know you can finish and feel that sense of achievement we all get when we accomplish something.
